Lately more customers are serious about SEO and are wondering if it’s a good idea to choose an extra or new URL for their website. And I could not give a clear answer to this because I hear and read different stories on this topic. I decided to do a little test and hope you guys will share your experiences on this issue with me.
I did a little test to check the effect of two URLs pointing to the same website in Google.
Here is what I did:
A month ago I created a website. A very simple one-page shop. I claimed two domain names that were activated at the same time. One domain name has a dash between the words and the other not. So the website is new and both the domain names are new to Google.
The ‘dashless’ URL seems to do better in the organic search results of Google. This is weird, as the URL with the dashes provides more context for the different keywords in the URL and is more readable.
Or is this just a coincidence? What are your results on this topic and what should we advise customers? I’m waiting for your feedback!
